Head Veterinary Nurse – Bristol

Is a positive work culture important to you? If so, this role is perfect for you. My client, a well-established and locally owned practice, is seeking a Head Veterinary Nurse to join their diverse and friendly team. This practice is independently run and supported by a fantastic team committed to delivering an inclusive work environment and outstanding service to patients, clients, and the community. With a strong team spirit, the practice prides itself on operating a positive environment for all.

The practice boasts an ISFM Silver Certificate Cat Friendly Clinic award, a RAW Silver Rabbit Friendly award, and is an approved Veterinary Nurse Training Practice. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the team utilises their skills to their full potential, handling tasks such as blood sample processing, catheter placements, stitch-ups, dental scale and polishes, x-rays, anaesthetic monitoring, nurse clinics, and in-patient care.

In this role, you will report to an experienced Practice Manager and work closely to ensure the smooth running of the practice. You will have direct line management responsibility for a team of 3 RVNs, 1 student nurse, and 2 VCAs. As an inspiring and composed leader with excellent communication skills, you will know how to get the best out of your team while working with the vets to maximise efficiencies and promote a culture of continuous quality improvement and clinical excellence.

This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, with flexibility to negotiate down to a minimum of 35 hours per week. The role includes just 1 in 5 weekends and no out-of-hours, on-call, or backup rotas—ensuring your time off is truly your own.

Benefits include:
- Competitive salary
- No out-of-hours work
- 5.6 weeks holiday including bank holidays (pro rata), increasing with service
- Paid professional memberships including RCVS and VDS
- CPD encouraged and supported
- Life assurance at 4x annual salary
- Contributory pension scheme
- Colleague reward hub with exclusive offers and discounts

If you are passionate about veterinary care and looking for a role where you can thrive in a supportive and inclusive environment, then this position is the perfect fit for you.
