Are you a mixed animal veterinary surgeon looking for a fulfilling role that offers you support and mentorship, helping to boost not only your skills but also your confidence working a vast and varied caseload? If so, we have just the role for you!
Our clients are looking for a mixed vet to join their fantastic team in South Wales. They are a small independent practice with 2 branches, covering a roughly 15-mile radius from the main practice. They are proud to offer large animal out of hours cover themselves, always having 2 vets on call (1st and 2nd) and have an agreement in place for the small animal out of hours to be covered by a local small animal hospital.
The team currently consists of 8 full time vets, 3 part time vets and a 2 tb testers. They run a 1 in 4 rota with the 1st on call at the weekend having 2 days in lieu the following week and the 2nd on call having one day in lieu. There is an appointment system for small animal surgeries and normal working hours are 9-5pm and the 2nd on call vet usually covers evening surgery 5-6pm.
This role is full time permanent with a split of roughly 60% large animal, a small amount of equine and 40% small animal cases. Candidates will ideally work well as part of a team and be confident working sole charge with a passion for providing outstanding patient and client care. You will have the support of an experienced team and senior vets available to mentor you as you settle into the team.
Their large animal client base consists of 50 dairy herds who average 120 milking cows and about 200 beef herds averaging 25 suckler cows. They have a big sheep client base and are mainly involved with pedigree lowland breeders, but do some seasonal work for a large number of hill sheep farms. Large animal day to day work is mainly routine work, individual clinical calls, tb testing, ram and bull fertility tests, castrating, dehorning etc. The practice is in an annual testing area and do unfortunately have some herd breakdowns.
The practices small animal work is first opinion. They have a good range of equipment including digital x-ray, ultrasound and inhouse laboratory, with their aim for both large and small animal patients being for the vets to be able to work up and complete as much in house as possible, including some basic orthopaedic work.
The practice itself has onsite parking and is ideally located just 25 minutes from Swansea and 1 hour from Cardiff and the Pembrock dock ferry terminal. This stunning location will not disappoint.
