About the Practice

An RCVS accredited establishment, stands out as one of the few practices in the UK solely dedicated to pigs. The team comprises 10 skilled vets, supported by a robust commercial and support team. While the practice is based in East Yorkshire, its client base spans the entire UK, with additional offices in Scotland and East Anglia.

What the Practice Does

The practice collaborates with integrators, owners, managers, and staff to enhance health, welfare, performance, and farm efficiency. They promote high welfare standards through knowledge transfer and on-farm assessments, clinically appraise individual pigs, and work with clients to achieve farm-specific business goals. The team also provides training and assessment to pig stock carers, sets and reviews production parameters, and develops health improvement strategies.

The Role

As a vital member of this team, the candidate will work closely with clients, becoming an integral part of their business. Responsibilities include:

- Conducting farm visits to advise on welfare, husbandry, health management, housing, and production.
- Performing post-mortem examinations.
- Investigating farm diseases, monitoring health status, and conducting various sampling procedures, abattoir inspections, and pregnancy scanning.
- Training unit staff in person or virtually.
- Participating in trial work with industry partners.
- Engaging in industry groups and producer meetings.

The role offers an excellent work-life balance with a maximum of 1:4 weekend rota, and call-outs are rare. Some travel and overnight stays will be necessary. The practice is open to full-time candidates but may consider part-time hours and flexible geographical locations, particularly for those with more experience.
