Located in a leading veterinary school, this position provides a unique blend of clinical practice, teaching, and research, ensuring a well-rounded professional experience.
This one-year fixed-term post is designed to give early-stage veterinarians the clinical experience required for further specialist training, such as European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS®) approved residencies or master's programmes. While the standard duration is one year, there may be opportunities for short-term extensions if mutually beneficial, supporting your career development and facilitating recruitment into the university’s advanced training programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Support the small animal surgical referral service by delivering high-quality care and advice to external referring practices and pet owners.
- Contribute to the development of innovative diagnostic and treatment techniques, enhancing the service's income generation capabilities.
- Participate in the out-of-hours service, ensuring comprehensive care for in-patients and providing supervision and advice as needed.
- Maintain compliance with continuing professional development requirements of the relevant speciality and the RCVS.
- Engage in promotional activities and events related to the Small Animal Hospital.
- Contribute to the academic development of the division.
Teaching Duties:
- Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in veterinary medicine, adhering to the established curriculum.
- Collaborate on clinical scholarship projects and trials, securing funding to support long-term growth and presenting findings at national and international forums.
- Actively participate in national and international events, research seminars, and conferences.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with administrative tasks as assigned by the Clinical Director or Head of Division.
- Participate in performance and development review processes in line with university strategy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
- Veterinary degree registerable with the RCVS.
- High standard of communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Self-motivated with strategic planning capabilities.
- High standard of presentation skills.
- Ability to provide advice to clinicians and external veterinary surgeons.
- Clinical experience in small animal surgery.
Desirable:
- Prior training and experience in small animal surgery.
- Masters, PhD, or other evidence of research training.
- Ability to provide specialist veterinary care in a small animal hospital.
- Understanding and experience with statistics, databases, and other IT applications.
- Previous experience in a clinical setting.
- Teaching experience in higher education.
- A track record of clinical publications.
Salary Package:
- Salary: £33,482 - £37,174 per annum
- Contract: Full-time, fixed-term for up to 12 months from the start date
